From a young age, Katlego displayed an infectious joy that made him impossible not to love. His childhood was a vibrant mixture of exploring, learning and strengthening the deep bonds he shared with his cousins and family.

Family was the centre of Katlego’s identity. He adored his cousins and siblings, forming friendships within the family that grew into lifelong companionships. Among them, he found his first audience for his jokes, his first teammates in mischief and his first teachers in the school of life.

Katlego especially cherished the bond he shared with his mother. Their relationship was one marked by warmth, pride and shared milestones. Witnessing her graduate was one of Katlego’s greatest joys, a moment he carried in his heart proudly. His glowing smile that day reflected the depth of his admiration and love.

Some of Katlego’s fondest memories were made during farm visits, where he experienced life outside the city. These visits were filled with new discoveries, lessons and endless laughter.

He learned to speak Ndebele with the help of family members, often bursting into laughter when he mispronounced a word or when someone corrected him in a playful way. His efforts, no matter how off-track, became cherished moments that brought joy to everyone around.

Chasing chickens, helping around the homestead, running from mischievous goats and joining cousins in laughter-filled chores were all part of the magic. The farm became a sanctuary, a place where family felt closer, nature felt generous and life felt simpler.

As the family loved to say:

His achievements earned him national recognition. On October 24, 1999, Katlego was featured in the City Press, honoured as one of the top-performing learners of the year. This was not simply a highlight, it was a testament to a young mind destined for greatness.
